Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Preparation For OBD II/Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle

1. Check the fuel gauge and the FLI PID. The Evaporative Emission, Fuel, HO2S and Misfire Monitors can only be tested if the fuel gauge reads above 1/4 full and the FLI PID is above 15% (percentage of tank full).
2. Ambient air temperature for all vehicle applications must be between 40-100°F (4 to 38°C). If inlet air temperature is below 0°F (-18°C), the catalyst monitor will not initiate.
3. Warm the vehicle up to at least an engine coolant temperature of 130°F (54°C).
4. Connect the New Generation Star (NGS) tester and access the ON BOARD SYSTEM READINESS menu. When all the monitors have been completed and P1000 is erased, the NGS will send out a three-pulse beep.
5. Retrieve Continuous Memory DTCs.
6. Perform a PCM Reset by pressing CLEAR on the NGS Tester. Leave the key on and proceed with the drive cycle.
