Component Tests and General Diagnostics

AUTOMATIC FREEWHEEL UNIT INSPECTION
AFW Switch Inspection





1. Disconnect the AFW switch connector and remove the switch.








2. Check for continuity at the switch by using an ohmmeter
3. If not as specified, replace the AFW switch.

One-way Check Valve Inspection
1. Remove the one-way check valve.
2. Blow through A and verify that air flows from B.





3. Blow through B and verify that air does not flow from A.
4. If not as specified, replace the one-way check valve.

Solenoid Valve Inspection





1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses and the connector from each solenoid valve.
2. Blow through each valve from port B.





3. Verify that air flows from the air filter.
4. Connect 12V and a ground to the terminals of each valve.
5. Blow through each valve from port B.





6. Verify that air flows from port A.
7. If not as specified, replace the solenoid valve(s).

Actuator Inspection
1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the actuator.
2. Connect a vacuum pump tester to the actuator (free side) as shown.





3. Apply 26.66 kPa (200 mmHg (7.87 inch Hg) vacuum, and verify that the rod moves inward.
4. Connect the vacuum pump to the actuator (lock side) as shown.





5. Apply 26.66 kPa (200 mmHg, 7.87 inch Hg) vacuum, and verify that the rod moves outward.
6. If not as specified, replace the actuator.

Vacuum Reservoir Inspection
1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.
2. Plug one hose fitting of the reservoir.
3. Connect a vacuum pump tester to the other fitting.





4. Apply 93.33 kPa (200 mmHg, 27.56 inch Hg) vacuum, and verify that the vacuum is held.
5. If not as specified, replace the vacuum reservoir.
