Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.




2. Connect the SST (104 Pin Breakout Box) to the PCM as shown.
3. Tighten the connector bolt.

Tightening torque:
7.9 - 10.7 Nm {80 - 100 kg.cm, 69.5 - 95.4 in.lb.}

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

CAUTION: Do not apply a vacuum outside of the specified limits. Doing so will damage the EGR boost sensor.

5. Disconnect the vacuum hose between the EGR boost sensor and intake manifold.
6. Verify that the PCM terminal 34 voltage is as specified.

Measuring Condition
- Input voltage: 4.5 - 5.5 V
- Outside temperature: 10 - 50° C {50 - 122° F}
- Sea level: -200 - 3,000 m {-656 - 9,840 ft}

Specification
2.3 - 4.7 V




7. Then apply the vacuum of -26.6 kPa {200 mmHg, -7.85 inHg} to EGR boost sensor and verify that the PCM terminal 34 voltage from step 6 changes as specified.
- If not as specified, inspect the following harness continuity and terminal voltage.

Specification
PCM terminal 34 voltage variation: 1.0 - 1.3 V

1. Harness continuity




- Between PCM terminal 34 and EGR boost sensor terminal A
- Between PCM terminal 91 and EGR boost sensor terminal B
- Between PCM terminal 90 and EGR boost sensor terminal C

2. Terminal voltage (Ignition switch ON)
- EGR boost sensor terminal B voltage: Below 1.0 V (constant)
- EGR boost sensor terminal C voltage: Approax. 5.0 V

8. If terminal voltage is correct and if there is harness continuity, replace the EGR boost sensor.
