Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch

1. Verify that the throttle valve is at CTP.
2. Disconnect the TP sensor connector.

3. Inspect for continuity between TP sensor connector terminals C and D using an ohmmeter.
- If there is no continuity, adjust the TP sensor.

4. Insert a 0.37 mm {0.015 in} feeler gauge between the throttle adjusting screw (TAS) and the throttle lever.
5. Verify that there is no continuity between terminals C and D.
- If there is continuity, adjust the TP sensor.

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.
2. Connect the SST (ESM adapter harness) between the PCM and the vehicle harness connectors.
3. Verify that the throttle valve is at the CTP.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Verify that the PCM terminal 3B voltage within specification.
- If not as specified, adjust the TP sensor.

Specification:
CTP: 0.1 - 1.1 V
WOT: 2.8 - 4.5 V
(Verify that the voltage increase is directly proportioned to the throttle valve opening angle.)
