Tightening Torque and Sequence


Cylinder Head Torque and Sequence





Install the cylinder head and lubricate the cylinder head bolts with clean engine oil. Install the cylinder head bolts and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in five stages.
Stage 1: Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (0.51 kgf-cm, 4 ft. lbs.)
Stage 2: Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (1.5 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
Stage 3: Tighten the bolts to 45 Nm (4.59 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.)
Stage 4: Turn the bolts 90 degrees (1/4 Turn)
Stage 5: Turn the bolts an additional 90 degrees (1/4 Turn)

Intake Manifold Torque and Sequence





Camshaft Bearing Torque and Sequence





Install the camshafts and bearing caps. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
Stage 1: Tighten the camshaft bearing bolt caps one turn at a time until tight.
Stage 2: Tighten the bolts to 7 Nm (0.71 kgf-cm, 5 ft. lbs.)
Stage 3: Tighten the bolts to 16 Nm (1.6 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)

Crankshaft Pulley torque and sequence
Using the special tools to hold the crankshaft pulley in place, tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt in two stages.
Stage 1: Tighten to 100 Nm (10.2 kgf-cm, 74 ft. lbs.)
Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees (1/4 Turn).

Flywheel/Flex Plate Torque and Sequence

Note:
^ Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.





Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-cm, 37 ft.lbs.)
Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm (8.16 kgf-cm, 59 ft.lbs.)
Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nm (11.42 kgf-cm, 83 ft.lbs.)

Oil Pump Torque and Sequence





Install a new gasket and the oil pump assembly. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
Stage 1: Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (1.0 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
Stage 2: Tight the bolts to 20 Nm (2.0 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
