Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR

Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist. See LIFTING.
3. Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.




4. Remove the plug.




5. Turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to position the number one cylinder at top dead center and install the special tool.




6. Remove the CKP sensor bolts and the CKP sensor.

Installation

CAUTION: Only hand tighten the bolt or damage to the front cover may occur.




1. Install a 6 mm (0.23 in) x 18 mm (0.7 in) standard bolt.

NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts at this time.




2. Install the CKP sensor and connect the electrical connector.




3. Adjust the CKP sensor alignment jig and tighten the CKP bolts to the specification.




4. Remove the bolt.




5. Remove the special tool.




6. Install the plug.
7. Connect the negative battery cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT.
