SYNCHRONIZERS








Disassembly

Note: First and second gear synchronizer shown; other synchronizers are similar.

Note: Prior to disassembly, note the position of the index marks.





1. Disassemble the synchronizer assembly.
1. Remove the synchronizer blocking springs.
2. Remove the synchronizer hub inserts.
3. Separate the synchronizer hub from the sleeve.





2. Inspect the synchronizer shift ring and hub for damage. Make sure that they move freely.

Assembly

Note: Align the index marks during assembly.

1. Assemble the synchronizer.
1. Position the synchronizer hub and sleeve together.
2. Install the synchronizer hub inserts.

Caution: When assembling the synchronizer springs make sure the springs are offset from one another.





3. Install the synchronizer springs.
