Water Pump: Service and Repair

WATER PUMP REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Drain engine coolant.
3. Remove cooling fan blade and clutch.
4. Remove the bolts and position the fan shroud out of the way.
5. Remove the drive belt.





6. Remove the belt idler pulley.





7. Slide the water bypass hose clamp back.





8. Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump.
1. Release the clamp.
2. Remove the hose.





9. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water pump.
1. Release the clamp.
2. Remove the hose.





10. Remove the water pump pulley.





11. Remove the water pump.
12. Clean all the sealing surfaces.
13. Install in reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.

Water Pump Gasket Installation Note

Caution:
^ Use care when scraping the water pump-to-engine block mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak paths.

Steps After Procedure
1. Connect negative battery cable.
2. Fill radiator with specified amount and type of engine coolant and bleed the cooling system.
