Flex Plate: Service and Repair



FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L

Removal Note

1. Remove the transmission.
2. Remove the clutch, if equipped





3. Install the flywheel locking tool SST and remove the bolts and the flywheel or flexplate.

Installation Note

Note:
- Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.

Note:
- Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.

1. Inspect the pilot bearing (manual transmission only). Install a new pilot bearing as necessary.
2. Install the flywheel or flexplate.
3. Install the flywheel locking tool SST.





4. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nom {5.1 kgfom, 37 ft-Ibf}.
- Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nom {8.16 kgfom, 59 ft-Ibf}.
- Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nom {11.42 kgfom, 83 ft-Ibf}.
5. Install the clutch, if equipped.
6. Install the transmission.
