Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair

EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

WARNING:The evaporative emission (EVAP) system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel is present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. See Procedures.

3. Remove the spare tire.

4. Disconnect the rear fuel tank vapor tube and fuel tank pressure sensor assembly-to-EVAP canister quick connect coupling.

5. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector.

6. Remove the EVAP canister and bracket assembly bolts.Tightening Torque14 Nm {1.4 kgf-m, 10 ft-lbf}

7. Remove the EVAP canister and bracket assembly.






1. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid-to-dust separator hose from the EVAP canister vent solenoid.






1. Remove the EVAP canister vent solenoid from the EVAP canister.

2. Remove the EVAP canister from the bracket.

3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Perform Leak Test. See Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
- Perform the Evaporative Emission Running Loss Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle Test. See Drive Cycles.
