Shift Cable: Adjustments




SHIFT CABLE AND BRACKET ADJUSTMENT

1. With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Place the gearshift lever in the (D) position and hang a 1.4 kg (3 lb) weight on the shift control selector lever.

- Move the selector lever to the first gear position, then move back 2 detents to the (D) position.
- Hang a 3.6 kg (8 lb) weight on the gearshift lever.

3. Verify the position of the selector lever indicator. If the selector lever indicator does not match the selector lever position the selector lever indicator will need to be adjusted. See Adjustments.

4. Raise and support the vehicle. See Lifting.

Disconnect the transmission selector lever cable from the manual control lever.

Remove the transmission selector lever cable clip and remove the cable from the bracket.

Place the manual control lever in the (D) position.
a. Rotate the manual control lever fully counterclockwise.

b. Rotate the manual control lever clockwise to the (D) position (2 detents).

Install the transmission selector lever cable into the bracket and install the clip.

Connect the transmission selector lever cable to the manual control lever.

10. Lower the vehicle.

11. Remove the 1.4 kg (3 lb) weight.

12. Remove the 3.6 kg (8 lb) weight.

CAUTION:To prevent damage, do not adjust the transmission shift cable in any position other than (D).Verify that the vehicle starts in PARK or NEUTRAL and that backup lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If not, repeat steps 1 through 7 and perform a digital transmission range (TR) sensor adjustment. See Service and Repair.
