DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a no crank condition and/or DTCs P0706, P0707 or P1702. This may be caused by the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor wire being pinched between the main control and transmission case, or an intermittently shorted transmission range (TR) sensor.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
TR code DTCs may be a result of poor common power and/or ground circuit shared between the TR sensor, OSS sensor and turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor.

1. Verify concern.

2. Follow Workshop Manual (section PINPOINT TEST 4: TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR) through to step 9.

3. If cause has not been found by the end of step 9, unplug OSS connector from solenoid body lead frame.

4. Check resistance between transmission case and each of the three (3) OSS sensor wires one at a time.

5. If any one of the three (3) OSS sensor wires are shorted to ground (transmission case) less than 5 ohms, replace OSS sensor according to Workshop Manual (section 05-13 OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED (OSS) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

NOTE:
Be very careful not to pinch the OSS sensor wires during installation of main control.

6. [NEW] If the OSS sensor wires are not shorted to ground, replace only the TR sensor according to the Workshop Manual (05-13 DIGITAL TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION). [END NEW]

7. Verify repair.
