Part 1
ENGINE - 3.0L (4V) REMOVALRemoval
All Vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Release the fuel system pressure.
3. Remove the battery tray.
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube and air cleaner.
5. Remove the front wheel and tires.
6. Remove the lower splash shields.
7. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector and the 2 wiring harness retainers.
8. Remove the 4 bolts and the lateral support crossmember.
9. Remove and discard the 6 exhaust Y-pipe-to-catalytic converter nuts.
10. Detach the exhaust hanger and remove the exhaust Y-pipe.
11. Remove the LH and RH brake hose retainers and anti-lock brake system (ABS) sensor wiring harness bolts.

12. Remove the LH and RH stabilizer link-to-strut nuts.

13. Remove the LH and RH tie-rod end nuts.

14. Using the special tool, separate the LH and RH tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles.

15. Remove the LH and RH lower ball joint pinch bolts and nuts.
^ Separate the steering knuckles from the lower ball joints.

16. Using the special tools, separate the LH half shaft from the transaxle.
^ Support the halfshaft with a length of mechanic's wire.
17. Using the special tools, separate the RH half shaft from the intermediate shaft.
^ Support the halfshaft with a length of mechanic's wire.
18. Remove the 2 intermediate shaft retaining nuts.
^ Remove the intermediate shaft.
All Wheel Drive (AWD) Vehicles
19. Remove and discard the 6 front driveshaft-to-PTU bolts and washers.
^ Position the driveshaft aside and support with mechanic's wire.
Caution
^ Do not reuse the driveshaft flange bolts and washers. Install new bolts and washers or damage to the vehicle may occur.
All Vehicles
20. Rotate the accessory drive tensioner counter clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
21. Drain the engine coolant.
22. Drain the engine oil and install the drain plug.
^ Tighten to 26 N-m (2.6 kgf-m, 19 ft-lbf).
23. Disconnect the A/C clutch field coil electrical connector.
24. Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
25. Remove the 3 accessory drive belt pulley assembly bolts.
^ Detach the wiring harness retainer and remove the idler pulley assembly.
26. Remove the front roll restrictor bolt and the 2 bolts for the engine support cross brace.
27. Remove the rear nut and the engine support crossmember.
^ Discard the nut.
28. Disconnect the 2 transaxle cooler tubes (1 shown).
29. Loosen the transaxle cooler tube fitting.
^ Remove the bracket bolt and the transaxle cooler tube.
30. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube fitting from the converter.
31. Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator cable snow shield.
32. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable.
^ Remove the 2 accelerator cable bracket bolts.
33. Remove the bolt and position the cables and bracket aside.
34. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
35. Disconnect the heater hoses and the throttle body coolant hose.
36. Detach the transaxle vent tube retainer from the throttle body.
37. Disconnect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling.
38. Disconnect the gearshift cable from the trans axle.
39. Disconnect the wire harness retainer from the shift cable bracket, remove the 2 remaining bolts, and position the bracket aside.
40. Disconnect the gearshift cable from the transaxle.
41. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector and detach the pin-type retainer.
42. Disconnect the EGR tube fitting and remove the EGR tube and the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor as an assembly.
