BULLETIN NOTE
This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin 05-014/08, issued 12/12/2008. The REPAIR PROCEDURE has been revised.
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2009 Tribute vehicles built before August 23, 2008
DESCRIPTION
Some 2009 Tribute vehicles equipped with a 6F35 transmission and built prior to August 23, 2008 may exhibit a MIL on with DTCs P0741 and/or P1744 set. These DTCs are the result of torque converter clutch failure.
- P0741 - Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Circuit Performance Or Stuck Off
- P1744 - TCC Failed Off
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
^ For vehicles built on August 23, 2008 or later, if MIL is on with DTCs P0741 and/or P1744 set, perform normal Workshop Manual diagnostic procedures for those DTCs.
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove transmission assembly. Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 05-13a - TRANSAXLE - 2.5L REMOVAL or TRANSAXLE - 3.0L REMOVAL.
IMPORTANT:
^ When replacing the transaxle, perform the transaxle cooler backflushing and cleaning procedure.
^ Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 05-13a - TRANSAXLE FLUID COOLER - BACKFLUSHING AND CLEANING.
3. Install new transaxle assembly. Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 05-13a - TRANSAXLE - 2.5L INSTALLATION or TRANSAXLE - 3.0L INSTALLATION.
4. Verify repair.
