Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]

Visual Inspection

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the plug hole plate. Service and Repair

3. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.

4. Remove the CMP sensor. Service and Repair

5. Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor.

- Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Voltage Inspection

1. Idle the engine.

2. Measure the CMP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See Component Tests and General Diagnostics)

- If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. Service and Repair
