ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2]

Warning

•  Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.

•  Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes.To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure". (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [F2].)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.  Drain the engine coolant. (See COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [F2].) (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [F2].)

3.  Remove the air cleaner and air hose. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2].)

4.  Remove the front pipe. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2].)

5.  Disconnect the accelerator cable, bracket, heater hoses, high-tension leads, and vacuum hoses

6.  Remove the radiator. (See RADIATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2].)

7.  Remove the cooling fan and cooling fan pulley. (See COOLING FAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2].)

8.  Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT [F2].)

9.  Disconnect the fuel hoses. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [F2].) (See AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [F2].)

10.  Remove the transmission. (See TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R15M-D].) (See TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [M15M-D].)

11.  Remove the P/S oil pump with the oil hose still connected. Position the P/S oil pump so that it is out of the way. (See POWER STEERING OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F2].)

12.  Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected. Position the A/C compressor so that it is out of the way.

13.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

14.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

15.  Start the engine and

(1)  Inspect the engine oil, engine coolant, transmission oil, and fuel leakage.

(2)  Inspect the ignition timing, idle speed and idle mixture. (See ENGINE TUNE-UP [F2].)

16.  Perform a road test.
