DESCRIPTION
|
• Starter does not work.
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE
|
• Open starter circuit between battery and starter through engine switch
• Starter malfunction
• Seized/hydrolocked engine or flywheel
|

No

Service if necessary.
Repeat Step 1.

• Is the clicking sound heard from the starter when the engine switch is turned to START?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No
|
Go to Step 6.
|

• Do any other electrical accessories work?
|
Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Inspect the charging system.
|
||

|
• Disconnect the battery negative cable.
• Disconnect the engine switch and starter connectors.
• Inspect electrical connections for loose wires, bending or corroded terminals.
• Inspect for continuity between the following circuits
• Are all circuits normal?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Repair or replace open circuits.

• Inspect the engine switch.
(See ENGINE SWITCH INSPECTION.)
• Are all circuits normal?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.

No
|
Replace the engine switch.
|

• Inspect the starting system.
• Is starting system normal?
|
Yes
|
Inspect for a seized/hydrolocked engine, flywheel or drive plate.

No
|
Repair or replace components if necessary.
|

• Verify the test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
