Engine compression pressure inspection (RZ4E-TC)

1. Engine compression pressure inspection

1) Warm up the engine.

2) Stop the engine.

3) Disconnect the battery cable from the battery negative terminal.

Caution

  • After turning the ignition switch (power mode for models with the passive entry and start system) OFF, do not disconnect the battery cable within 1 minute.
  • The ECM may malfunction if the battery cable is disconnected within 1 minute.
  • If the battery cable is disconnected, perform the following settings after connecting the battery negative terminal.
  • Steering angle sensor setting
  • Setting for front door power window switch with AUTO UP/AUTO DOWN function

4) Remove all glow plugs from the cylinder head.

Refer to "1.Engine 1J.Electrical(RZ4E-TC) glow plug removal".

5) Disconnect the harness connector from the injector.

6) Connect the battery cable to the battery negative terminal.

7) Crank the engine, and discharge the foreign material from the cylinder interior.

Caution

  • Be aware that strong air pressure will flow out from the glow plug hole when the engine is running.

8) Install special tool to the cylinder head.

SST: 5-8840-2675-0 - compression gauge

9) Rotate the starter, and read the compression pressure when the compression gauge needle stabilizes.

Note

  • Measure the compression pressure of all cylinders.

Standard: 2.840 to 3.240 MPa { 29 to 33 kgf/cm2 / 412 to 470 psi } / 200 rpm

Limit: 1.960 MPa { 20 kgf/cm2 / 284 psi } / 200 rpm

Difference between each cylinder: 294 kPa { 3.0 kgf/cm2 / 43 psi } / 200 rpm

The above are the values at 0 m above sea level.
To obtain the compression standard pressure (x) at the current point, multiply the standard pressure (A) at 0 m above sea level with the barometric pressure (B) at the current point, and divide by the barometric pressure (101.3 kPa) (C) at 0 m above sea level.
x = A x B / C

Caution

  • Use a fully charged battery.
  • Be aware that strong air pressure will flow out from the glow plug hole when the engine is running.
  • Because a DTC is stored if the ignition switch is turned ON with the injector harness connector removed, make sure to clear the DTC after completion of inspection.

10) Remove special tool from the cylinder head.

11) Disconnect the battery cable from the battery negative terminal.

12) Install all glow plugs to the cylinder head.

Refer to "1.Engine 1J.Electrical(RZ4E-TC) glow plug installation".

13) Connect the harness connector to the injector.

14) Connect the battery cable to the battery negative terminal.

Caution

  • Referring to the following, perform the settings for the steering angle sensor and for the front door power window switch with AUTO UP/AUTO DOWN function.

Refer to "6.Steering 6Z.Steering Electrical Control steering angle sensor setting".

Refer to "9.Body, Cab, Accessories 9T.Glass, Windows, Mirrors front door power window switch setting".
