Glow control system check (4JJ3 without DPD)

The glow control system consists of the ECM, the glow relay, and the glow plug. The system is activated to assist the engine starting when the engine coolant temperature is low. The ECM turns ON the glow relay for a predetermined period of time when the ignition switch is ON and the engine is OFF. During after glow, the glow plug works for a predetermined time even while the engine is running.

1. Glow control operating conditions

  • The glow control system operates for approximately maximum 3 minutes for pre-glow and after glow in total according to the engine coolant temperature.
  • The pre-glow control system operates when the engine coolant temperature is 30°C {86°F} or less.
  • The after glow control system operates when the engine coolant temperature is 55°C {131°F} or less.
