Diagnostic system check-headlight auto leveling controls (Headlight Automatic Leveling Control)

  • If there is no malfunction in the headlight auto leveling control unit, do not perform these diagnostic steps unless otherwise instructed to do so.
  • Check for related Service Bulletins before starting the diagnosis.
  • Do not clear the DTC unless instructed to do so in a diagnostic step.
  • The battery should be fully charged.
  • The battery cable should be normal and securely connected.
  • The ground of the headlight auto leveling control unit should be securely connected to the correct position.
  • The headlight auto leveling control unit harness connector should be clean and correctly connected.
  • The vehicle height values should be initialized.

1. Scan tool power-up check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Power up the scan tool. Does the scan tool power up?

Yes

=>Go to Scan tool communication verification.

No

Go to Scan tool does not power up.

2. Scan tool communication verification

1) Turn ON the ignition switch.

2) Communicate with the headlight auto leveling control unit using a scan tool. Can communication with the headlight auto leveling control unit be established?

Yes

=>Go to Headlight auto leveling control unit DTC check.

No

Go to Lost communication with the headlight auto leveling control unit.

Refer to "65.Lighting Control 10J.Troubleshooting(Headlight Automatic Leveling Control) lost communication with the headlight auto leveling control unit (models without radar sensor and stereo camera)".

3. Headlight auto leveling control unit DTC check

1) Observe the DTC information for the headlight auto leveling control unit using a scan tool. Is a DTC set?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC diagnosis.

No

=>Go to Headlight automatic leveling warning light check.

4. Headlight automatic leveling warning light check

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Check the headlight automatic leveling warning light. Does the headlight automatic leveling warning light illuminate for 3 seconds and then turn OFF?

Yes

The system is normal.

No (Does not illuminate)

Go to Headlight automatic leveling warning light inoperative.

No (Remains ON)

Go to Headlight automatic leveling warning light always on.
