DTC P1A40[14] Axle Motor Circuit (4WD models)

1. DTC P1A40[14] description

The shift-on-the-fly actuator is installed to the right side of the front axle case, and automatically operates when switching between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The worm gear connected to the actuator rotates in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction by changing the direction of current flowing to the actuator drive circuit. The shift rod moves according to the worm gear rotation, and two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive is switched via sleeve. The axle switch is built into the shift-on-the-fly actuator. The TCCM recognizes the current shift-on-the-fly actuator driving conditions from the axle switch. If the TCCM detects an open circuit or short to ground either in the shift-on-the-fly actuator drive A circuit or the shift-on-the-fly actuator drive B circuit, this DTC is set.

2. Condition for setting DTC P1A40[14]

Condition for running the DTC

  • The battery voltage is 10 to 16 V.

Condition for setting the DTC

  • The TCCM detects an open circuit or short to ground either in the shift-on-the-fly actuator drive A circuit or the shift-on-the-fly actuator drive B circuit.

3. Action taken when DTC P1A40[14] sets

  • The TCCM illuminates the check 4WD warning light when the diagnostic runs and fails.
  • The current transfer position is retained.
  • The previously recognized 4WD switch position is retained.
  • If a shift-on-the-fly-actuator malfunction is found during the transfer actuator operation, the status after the transfer actuator operation has completed will be retained.
  • The TCCM is reset after the ignition switch turns OFF.
