The shift lock mechanism is built into the automatic transmission. When the selector lever is in the P position, the shift lock solenoid is activated and operating from the P position is no longer possible. To operate from the P position, turning the ignition switch ON and depressing the brake pedal will energize the shift lock solenoid, and then pressing the selector lever push button will make operation possible.
