The MIL or check engine warning light is in the instrument panel cluster. The MIL or check engine warning light informs the driver that a malfunction has occurred in the engine control system and that it is necessary to repair the vehicle. The ECM monitors for any status that is different from the MIL or check engine warning light command status in the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit. The circuit is defective if the ECM detects a low voltage when the MIL or check engine warning light is commanded OFF, or the ECM detects a high voltage when the MIL or check engine warning light is commanded ON. If the ECM detects any abnormal control circuit voltage, the DTC is set.
