1) Connect the scan tool.
2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 1 minute or more.
3) Turn ON the ignition switch for 10 seconds.
4) Start the engine.
5) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?
Yes
No
Go to Intermittent conditions of engine.

1) Inspect the METER(IG1) 5A fuse for a blowout. Is the result normal?
Yes
=>Go to Inspection for short to ground in MIL or check engine warning light control circuit.
No
Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows out again, repair the short to ground in the circuits relating to the METER(IG1) 5A fuse.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Disconnect the ECM harness connector (C8).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.
4) Check the MIL or check engine warning light. Does the MIL or check engine warning light turn OFF?
Yes
=>Go to Inspection for short to power supply in MIL or check engine warning light control circuit.
No
Repair the short to ground in the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit between the ECM (pin 18 of C8) and the instrument panel cluster (pin 18 of B7).
1) Remove the METER(IG1) 5A fuse.
2) Turn ON the ignition switch.
3) Measure the voltage between the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit (pin 18 of C8) and the body ground with a DMM. Is the voltage less than or equal to the specified value?

No
Repair the short to the battery power supply circuit or the short to the ignition power supply circuit in the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit between the ECM (pin 18 of C8) and the instrument panel cluster (pin 18 of B7).
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Install the METER(IG1) 5A fuse.
3) Connect a fused jumper wire between the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit (pin 18 of C8) and the body ground.

No
=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in instrument panel cluster power supply circuit.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Remove the instrument panel cluster.

3) Connect a test lamp between the ignition power supply circuit (pin 2 of B7) and the body ground.

1) Inspect the MIL or check engine warning light control circuit between the ECM (pin 18 of C8) and the instrument panel cluster (pin 18 of B7) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?
