DTC P2138 (Flash Code 124) Pedal Position Sensor 1 - 2 Voltage Correlation (RZ4E-TC)

1. DTC P2138 description

The accelerator pedal position sensor is installed to the accelerator pedal. The sensor consists of 2 sensors in 1 housing. Accelerator pedal position sensor 1 and accelerator pedal position sensor 2 are Hall element type sensors and each has the following circuits.

  • 5 V reference circuit
  • Low reference circuit
  • Signal circuit

The ECM supplies 5 V to the accelerator pedal position sensor via the 5 V reference circuit and grounds to the low reference circuit. The accelerator pedal position sensor sends signals related to accelerator pedal angle changes to the ECM via the signal circuit. The signal voltage of accelerator pedal position sensor 1 and accelerator pedal position sensor 2 is kept low at first and increases as the pedal is depressed. If the ECM detects that the accelerator pedal position sensor 1 signal voltage and the accelerator pedal position sensor 2 signal voltage do not correlate, the DTC is set.

2. Condition for setting DTC P2138

Condition for running the DTC

  • The battery voltage is 9 to 16 V.
  • The ignition voltage is 9 to 16 V.
  • The ignition switch is ON.
  • The accelerator pedal position sensor 1 signal voltage is 0.4 to 4.8 V.
  • The accelerator pedal position sensor 2 signal voltage is 0.4 to 4.8 V.
  • DTC P060B is not set.

Refer to "51.Engine Control 1A.Troubleshooting(RZ4E-TC) DTC P060B (Flash Code 36) Internal Control Module A/D Processing Performance".

Condition for setting the DTC

  • The ECM detects that the opening position difference between accelerator pedal position sensor 1 and accelerator pedal position sensor 2 is the predetermined value or more.

3. Action taken when DTC P2138 sets

  • Euro4: The ECM illuminates the MIL. Refer to Action taken when DTC sets - Type A (Euro4).
  • Except Euro4: The ECM illuminates the check engine warning light. Refer to Action taken when DTC sets - Type A (Except Euro4).

Refer to "51.Engine Control 1A.Troubleshooting(RZ4E-TC) DTC type definitions".

  • The ECM inhibits the cruise control.

4. Condition for clearing DTC P2138

  • Euro4: Refer to Condition for clearing the MIL/DTC - Type A or Type B (Euro4).
  • Except Euro4: Refer to Condition for clearing the check engine warning light/DTC - Type A or Type B (Except Euro4).

Refer to "51.Engine Control 1A.Troubleshooting(RZ4E-TC) DTC type definitions".
