SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning

•  Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

•  If the side air bag module is installed with debris in the seat back, the foreign material may be scattered when the side air bag module operates (deploys), causing injury. Verify that there is no foreign material in the seat back before installing the side air bag module.

Manual Seat

1.  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

3.  Remove the front seat. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the front seat back trim and pad. (See FRONT SEAT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.)

5.  Detach the front seat connector tab, slide the front seat connector in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, and then remove the connector from the front seat.

6.  Detach the front seat connector tab as shown in the figure and remove the side air bag module connector.

7.  Remove the clip securing the wiring harness.

8.  Cut the band securing the wiring harness installed to the position shown in the figure and remove the side air bag module harness.

9.  Remove the nuts.

10.  Remove the side air bag module.

11.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

12.  Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

13.  Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.

•  If the air bag system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART.)

Side air bag module harness installation note

1.  Set the side air bag module wiring harness in the inner side of the reverse cover.

Power Seat

1.  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

4.  Remove the front seat back trim and pad. (See FRONT SEAT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.)

5.  Detach the front seat connector tab, slide the front seat connector in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, and then remove the connector from the front seat.

6.  Detach the front seat connector tab as shown in the figure and remove the side air bag module connector.

7.  Cut the band securing the wiring harness installed to the position shown in the figure and remove the side air bag module harness.

8.  Remove the nuts.

9.  Remove the side air bag module.

10.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

11.  Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

12.  Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.

Band Installation note

1.  Install the band with its end pointing toward the inboard side of the seat.
