•  Fuel temperature sensor: P10D5:00
•  LIN communication system: U1201:00, U1202:00, U1203:00, U1204:00
Diagnostic support note
•  This is an intermittent monitor (fuel system).
•  The check engine light illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA/Snapshot data is available.
•  DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
•  Limits the engine torque/limits the maximum engine speed.
•  Inhibits the automatic diesel particulate filter regeneration control.
•  Inhibits the manual diesel particulate filter regeneration control.
•  Inhibits engine-stop by i-stop control.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Fuel filter clogging
•  Fuel pressure relief valve malfunction
•  Suction control valve malfunction
•  Fuel pressure sensor malfunction
•  Erroneous piping (poor connection) of fuel pipe
•  Fuel leakage or clogging in fuel line
•  Supply pump malfunction
•  Inferior fuel added
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has any DTC other than P0088:00 been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT FUEL FILTER
•  Inspect the fuel filter for clogging.
•  Is the fuel filter normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11.
4
INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
•  Inspect the fuel pressure relief valve.
•  Is the fuel pressure relief valve normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the common rail, then go to Step 11.
5
INSPECT SUCTION CONTROL VALVE
•  Inspect the suction control valve.
•  Is the suction control valve normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the suction control valve, then go to Step 11.
6
INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
•  Inspect the fuel pressure sensor.
•  Is the fuel pressure sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the fuel pressure sensor, then go to Step 11.
7
INSPECT FUEL PIPING
•  Inspect the fuel piping.
•  Is the fuel piping installation normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Install the fuel piping correctly, then go to Step 11.
8
INSPECT FUEL LINE FOR FUEL LEAKAGE OR CLOGGING
•  Inspect the following fuel lines of each cylinder for fuel leakage or clogging.
―  Supply pump to common rail
―  Common rail to fuel injector
•  Is the fuel line normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11.
9
INSPECT SUPPLY PUMP
•  Inspect the supply pump.
•  Is the supply pump normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the supply pump, then go to Step 11.
10
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY FUEL DETERIORATION
•  Replace the fuel.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC.
•  Start the engine and idle it.
•  Using the M-MDS, display the data monitor item ECT and warm up the engine to 80 °C.
