Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off or on).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P057F:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY INABILITY TO START ENGINE
•  Start the engine.
•  Does it start normally?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform symptom troubleshooting according to [NO. 9 POOR ENGINE STARTING (ENGINE DOES NOT START)] or [NO. 10 POOR ENGINE STARTING (ENGINE STARTING DIFFICULT)].
4
VERIFY COMMON RAIL SYSTEM OPERATION
•  Inspect the common rail operation.
•  Does the common rail operate normally?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11.
5
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY ROUGH IDLING OR PISTON-STOP POSITION MALFUNCTION
•  Start the engine and warm it up.
•  Is the idle speed stabilized?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.
6
INSPECT CKP SENSOR SIGNAL
•  Display the PCM terminal 1E output signal wave pattern using an oscilloscope.
•  Is the output wave pattern normal?
Yes
Go to Step 11.
No
Inspect the CKP sensor pulse wheel
•  If there is a malfunction
―  Replace the pulse wheel.
•  If there is no malfunction
Go to Step 11.
7
VERIFY VACUUM HOSE CONNECTION STATUS
•  Verify the vacuum hose connection status.
•  Is the vacuum hose connection status normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Correctly connect the vacuum hose, then go to Step 11.
8
INSPECT INTAKE AIR SYSTEM FOR AIR SUCTION
•  Visually inspect the following intake air system for looseness or damage.
―  Air cleaner to intake manifold
•  Is the intake air system normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11.
9
VERIFY EGR VALVE OPERATION CONDITION
•  Perform the EGR control inspection.
•  Is the EGR valve operation normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11.
10
VERIFY ASSEMBLY CONDITION OF TIMING CHAIN
•  Verify the condition of the timing chain assembly (valve timing, looseness, jumping).
•  Is the timing chain condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
Assemble the timing chain using the correct timing, then go to Step 11.
11
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Reconnect all disconnected connectors and hoses.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC.
•  Start the engine and drive the vehicle under the freeze frame data (mode 2)/snapshot data condition.
Warning
•  To prevent an accident, work with another person when the vehicle is being driven (one person drives vehicle, other person operates M-MDS).
•  Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location where safety can be assured.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P0A0F:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
