THERMO VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2]

Warning

•  Never remove the cooling system cap or loosen the radiator drain plug while the engine is running, or when the engine and radiator are hot. Scalding engine coolant and steam may shoot out and cause serious injury. It may also damage the engine and cooling system.

•  Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Step back while the pressure escapes.

•  When you are sure all the pressure is gone, press down on the cap using the cloth, turn it, and remove it.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

3.  Remove the front under cover No.1 and No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.1 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

5.  Remove the coolant reserve tank. (See COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

6.  Remove the EGR pipe (EGR valve side). (See EGR PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

7.  Remove the EGR valve. (See EGR VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

8.  Remove the thermo valve using the following procedure.

(1)  Place an appropriate container under the engine to collect the draining engine coolant.

(2)  Disconnect the water hose. (See Water Hose Installation Note.)

(3)  Disconnect the water hose. (See Water Hose Installation Note.)

(4)  Remove the bolt.

(5)  Disconnect the water hoses. (See Water Hose Removal Note.) (See Water Hose Installation Note.)

(6)  Disconnect the water hose. (See Water Hose Removal Note.) (See Water Hose Installation Note.)

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

10.  Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

11.  Inspect for engine coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

Water Hose Removal Note

1.  Disconnect the water hose while pulling the thermo valve toward the vehicle front as shown in the figure.

Water Hose Installation Note

1.  Connect the water hose to the thermo valve so that the water hose markings are aligned with the projections of the thermo valve.
