1.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.  Release the electric parking brake.

3.  Switch the ignition off.

4.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.  Remove the drain plug and washer, and drain the oil. (See DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT.)

7.  Install and tighten the new washer and drain plug.

Tightening torque
40—53 N·m {4.1—5.4 kgf·m, 30—39 ft·lbf}

8.  Remove the rear drive shaft. (See REAR DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

9.  Remove the oil seal from the rear differential carrier using a flathead screwdriver.

Caution
•  To prevent damaging the inside of the differential casing, wrap a cloth on the end of the screwdriver.

10.  Apply differential oil to the lip of a new oil seal.

11.  Press fit the new oil seal until it reaches the rear differential carrier using the SST.

Note
•  Install the oil seal at a straight angle.

12.  Install the rear drive shaft. (See REAR DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

13.  Verify that the rear drive shaft cannot be pulled out.

14.  Remove the oil filler plug and washer, and then add the recommended differential oil. (See DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT.)

15.  After adding the differential oil, inspect the oil level. (See DIFFERENTIAL OIL INSPECTION.)

16.  Install and tighten the new washer and oil filler plug.

Tightening torque
40—53 N·m {4.1—5.4 kgf·m, 30—39 ft·lbf}

17.  Install the wheels and tires. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

18.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
