Transfer Oil Seal (Companion Flange)

Note

•  When replacing the transfer oil seal installed to the companion flange, perform the procedure referring to the applicable TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE workshop manual because a transfer overhaul is necessary.

Transfer oil seal (LH)

1.  Drain the transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)

2.  Remove the transfer from the vehicle. (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FW6AX-EL].) (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6AX-EL].)

3.  Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the lip area of the transfer oil seal (LH) as shown in the figure and remove the transfer oil seal (LH).

4.  Using the SST and a hammer, install a new transfer oil seal (LH).

5.  Apply transfer oil to the lip area of the transfer oil seal (LH).

6.  Install the transfer to the vehicle. (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FW6AX-EL].) (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6AX-EL].)

7.  Add transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)

Transfer oil seal (RH) No.1

1.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Insert a flathead screwdriver into the notch of the transfer and remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.

3.  Install the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1 so that the projection of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1 is within the range shown in the figure.

4.  Using the SST and a hammer, install a new transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.

5.  Apply transfer oil to the lip area of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.

6.  Install the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Transfer Oil Seal (RH) No.2

1.  Drain the transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)

2.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1. (See Transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.)

4.  Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the lip area of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.2 as shown in the figure and remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.2.

5.  Using the SST and a hammer, install a new transfer oil seal (RH) No.2.

6.  Apply transfer oil to the lip area of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.2.

7.  Install the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1. (See Transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.)

8.  Install the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

9.  Add transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)

Transfer Oil Seal (RH) No.3

1.  Drain the transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)

2.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1. (See Transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.)

4.  Remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.3 using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

5.  Using the SST and a hammer, install a new transfer oil seal (RH) No.3.

6.  Apply transfer oil to the lip area of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.3.

7.  Install the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1. (See Transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.)

8.  Install the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

9.  Add transfer oil. (See TRANSFER OIL REPLACEMENT [FW6AX-EL, GW6AX-EL].)
