Description

Recliner motor (LH) circuit malfunction

Detection condition

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) detects an open circuit or short to ground in the recliner motor (LH) circuit.

Fail-safe

•  Inhibits the rear power recliner function from being driven.

•  Inhibits the rear power walk-in operation function from being driven.

Possible cause

•  Recliner motor (LH) connector or terminal malfunction

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) connector or terminal malfunction

•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A

•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A

•  Recliner motor (LH) malfunction

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) malfunction

INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Switch the ignition off.

•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
(See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

•  Disconnect the recliner motor (LH) connector.

•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.

•  Is the connector normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH) CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the rear power seat control module (LH) connector.

•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.

•  Is the connector normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Verify that the recliner motor (LH) and rear power seat control module (LH) connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following circuits:

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A

If there is a common connector:

•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.

•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

If there is no common connector:

•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.

Go to Step 7.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

•  Verify that the recliner motor (LH) and rear power seat control module (LH) connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B

―  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following circuits:

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B

•  Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A

If there is a common connector:

•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit.

•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

If there is no common connector:

•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.

Go to Step 7.

INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH)

•  Inspect the recliner motor (LH).
(See RECLINER MOTOR INSPECTION.)

•  Is the part normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the second-row seat (LH), then go to Step 7.

INSPECT REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH)

•  Inspect the rear power seat control module (LH).
(See REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH) INSPECTION.)

•  Is the part normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the second-row seat (LH), then go to the next step.

(See SECOND-ROW SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED

•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors with the negative battery terminal disconnected.

•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
(See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

•  Clear the DTC for the rear power seat control module (LH) using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH)].)

•  Retrieve the rear power seat control module (LH) DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH)].)

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Repeat the inspection from Step 1.

•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the second-row seat (LH).
(See SECOND-ROW SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

•  Are any other DTCs displayed?

Yes

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No

2		No	Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 7.
3	INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Verify that the recliner motor (LH) and rear power seat control module (LH) connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground: ― Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G ― Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H • Is there continuity?	Yes	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following circuits: • Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B • Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground. Go to Step 7.
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT • Verify that the recliner motor (LH) and rear power seat control module (LH) connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side): ― Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B ― Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A • Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following circuits: • Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2G—Recliner motor (LH) terminal B • Rear power seat control module (LH) terminal 2H—Recliner motor (LH) terminal A If there is a common connector: • Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit. • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. If there is no common connector: • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit. Go to Step 7.
5	INSPECT RECLINER MOTOR (LH) • Inspect the recliner motor (LH). (See RECLINER MOTOR INSPECTION.) • Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Replace the second-row seat (LH), then go to Step 7. (See SECOND-ROW SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6	INSPECT REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH) • Inspect the rear power seat control module (LH). (See REAR POWER SEAT CONTROL MODULE (LH) INSPECTION.) • Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Replace the second-row seat (LH), then go to the next step. (See SECOND-ROW SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7	VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED • Reconnect all the disconnected connectors with the negative battery terminal disconnected. • Connect the negative battery terminal.
