Description

Communication error with BCM

Detection condition
•  Auto light/wiper control module cannot receive the signal from the BCM for 5 s or more.
Possible cause
•  Auto light/wiper control module connector or terminal malfunction
•  BCM connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between BCM terminal 3B and auto light/wiper control module terminal 2P
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between BCM terminal 3B and auto light/wiper control module terminal 2P
•  BCM malfunction
•  Auto light/wiper control module malfunction

INSPECT AUTO LIGHT/WIPER CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR
•  Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the auto light/wiper control module connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BCM AND AUTO LIGHT/WIPER CONTROL MODULE
•  Verify that the auto light/wiper control module and BCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between auto light/wiper control module terminal 2P (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BCM AND AUTO LIGHT/WIPER CONTROL MODULE
•  Verify that the auto light/wiper control module and BCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between BCM terminal 3B (wiring harness-side) and auto light/wiper control module terminal 2P (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit, then go to Step 6.

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION AND VERIFY BCM MALFUNCTION
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTC for the auto light/wiper control module using the M-MDS.
•  Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for 5 s or more.
•  Retrieve the auto light/wiper control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Replace the BCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.
6
VERIFY DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTC for the auto light/wiper control module using the M-MDS.
•  Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for 5 s or more.
•  Retrieve the auto light/wiper control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the auto light/wiper control module.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
