DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)]

Warning
•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module.(See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)(See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)
Note
•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.
―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor
―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor

1.  Place the driver-side air bag module in the position shown in the figure.

Note
•  The connector (horn switch and driver-side air bag module) wiring harnesses are bundled by one tube. Check the fitting shape before connecting the connector.

2.  Connect the horn switch connector.

3.  Connect the driver-side air bag module connector and press in the stopper plate.

4.  Move the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

5.  Rotate the driver-side air bag module clockwise 180 degrees.

Caution
•  Use caution when installing the driver-side air bag module to prevent the harness from interfering with the pins as this could damage the harness.

6.  Align the driver-side air bag module pin with the steering wheel hole.

7.  Push the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, and fit the pin and the hole.

8.  Verify that the driver-side air bag module is securely attached.

9.  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

10.  Switch the main power ON (READY off or on).

11.  Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light turns on for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag/pre-tensioner warning light does not work properly, verify the DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
