DETERMINING SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS LOCATION (CAN-BUS No.8) [L.H.D. (E)]

id100225004876

Caution
•  Perform the following malfunction diagnosis only when it is diagnosed with a short between circuits by CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [L.H.D. (E)].)

Determination Procedure

Caution
•  When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.
•  When inspecting the connector, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester probe into the terminal.
•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal before performing any work that requires handling of connectors.

Step

Inspection

Action

1
INSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the main power OFF.
•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector 3 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 3V and 3U.
•  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal.
•  Switch the main power ON (READY off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 3V and 3U (wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 3V and 3U (wiring harness side) the same?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the body control module (BCM) because there is a short between circuits in the body control module (BCM).
2
INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-19 AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the main power OFF.
•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector C-19.
•  Connect the connector 3 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 3U and 3V.
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the body control module (BCM) and connector C-19 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT EMERGENCY CALL UNIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the main power OFF.
•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the emergency call unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between emergency call unit terminals 1Q and 1S (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between emergency call unit and connector C-19 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the emergency call unit because there is a short between circuits in the emergency call unit.
