Warning
<<High voltage>>
•  If the necessary measures are not taken before servicing an electric vehicle, it could cause electrical shock and result in serious injury or, in the worst case, death. Before servicing the electric vehicle, refer to [HIGH VOLTAGE SERVICE CAUTIONS] in the general information and implement the necessary measures. (See HIGH VOLTAGE SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

Outline

Malfunction symptom

Normal charging does not finish

Description
•  The charge indicator flashes in green even though the high voltage battery level indication in the instrument cluster indicates full charge.
•  Charging does not finish at the time set on the charging timer.
Possible cause
Note
•  The time required to charge the high voltage battery differs depending on the ambient temperature, high voltage battery temperature, state of charge, and years of use. In particular, charging takes longer under conditions in which the high voltage battery temperature and the ambient temperature are low.
Full charge cannot be recognized:
•  BECM cannot recognize charging amount
―  BECM related DTCs detected
Charge indicator display malfunction:
•  Charge port-electrical supply unit malfunction
•  Charge indicator malfunction
•  CAN communication error
―  BECM related DTCs detected
―  PCM related DTCs detected
Charging does not finish at time set on charging timer:
•  High voltage battery used during charging timer
―  Cabin preconditioning is operating during charging timer (normal operation)
―  Battery heater is operating while charging timer is performed at extremely low temperatures (normal operation)
•  High voltage battery level at the start of charge is low (normal operation)
―  High voltage battery level at start of charge is so low that battery cannot be fully charged in set time even if full-charge priority function of charging timer operates.
•  During charging by charging timer, charging operation is switched to remote charging using Smartphone
•  During charging by charging timer, charging operation is switched to immediate charging using center display
•  During charging by charging timer, high voltage battery cleaning operates (normal operation)

Diagnostic Procedure

Warning
<<High voltage>>
•  If necessary measures such as wearing the correct protective gear are not taken when inspecting or removing/installing the high voltage parts, it could cause electrical shock and result in serious injury or, in the worst case, death.
•  Before inspecting or removing/installing the high voltage parts, refer to [HIGH VOLTAGE SERVICE CAUTIONS] in the general information and [High Voltage Part Inspection and Removal/Installation Notes] of the high voltage system service cautions and implement the necessary measures and preparations. (See HIGH VOLTAGE SERVICE CAUTIONS.) (See HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
VERIFY EV SYSTEM DTCs
•  Perform the DTC inspections for the following modules.
―  PCM
―  BECM
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY CHARGING TIMER SETTING
•  Refer to the owner’s manual and verify the charging timer setting status.
•  Is charging timer set to full charge?
Yes
Explain to the customer that charging may not finish within the desired charge finish time because charging timer is set to full charge.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT CHARGE INDICATOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Using the M-MDS, display the PCM simulation item [CHG_STAT_IND].
•  When the simulation item [CHG_STAT_IND] is on, verify the charge indicator illumination status.
•  Does the charge indicator illumination switch in the order of white, green, amber, and red?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the following may have occurred.
•  High voltage battery used during charging timer
―  Cabin preconditioning is operating during charging timer
―  Battery heater is operating while charging timer is performed at extremely low temperatures to assure charging performance
•  The high voltage battery level at the start of charge is low (high voltage battery lever at start of charge is so low that battery cannot be charged within set time)
•  During charging by charging timer, charging operation is switched to remote charging using Smartphone
•  During charging by charging timer, charging operation is switched to immediate charging using center display
•  During charging by charging timer, high voltage battery cleaning operates (normal operation)
No
Wear insulating gloves, repair or replace the malfunctioning location, and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting. (Explain contents of repair to customer.)
No
Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
