Driver-side

Actuator inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the driver-side air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL.)(See AIR MIX ACTUATOR INSTALLATION.)

3.  Connect the driver-side air mix actuator connector.

4.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

6.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

7.  Operate the air mix actuator using the simulation function [AIR_MIX_MODE_R] of the dash-electrical supply unit. (See SIMULATION INSPECTION.)(See SIMULATION TABLE [DASH-ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT].)

8.  Verify that the air intake actuator operation condition is as shown in the figure.

Caution
•  If the lever position exceeds the operation range shown in the figure, the circuit in the actuator could be damaged. Always perform an actuator operation inspection with the lever movement within the range shown in the figure.

9.  If it does not operate as shown in the figure, replace the air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL.)(See AIR MIX ACTUATOR INSTALLATION.)

Position sensor inspection

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.  Switch the ignition ON (engine on).

3.  Display PID [AIR_MIX_POS_R] using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)(See PID/DATA MONITOR TABLE [DASH-ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT].)

4.  Operate the temperature control dial.

5.  Verify that the PID value changes according to the temperature control dial operation.

6.  If the PID value does not change, replace the air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL.)(See AIR MIX ACTUATOR INSTALLATION.)

Passenger-side

Actuator inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the passenger-side air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL.)(See AIR MIX ACTUATOR INSTALLATION.)

3.  Connect the passenegr-side air mix actuator connector.

4.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

6.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

7.  Operate the air mix actuator using the simulation function [AIR_MIX_MODE_L] of the dash-electrical supply unit. (See SIMULATION INSPECTION.)(See SIMULATION TABLE [DASH-ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT].)

8.  Verify that the air mix actuator operation condition is as shown in the figure.
