FAR SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

Warning
•  Handling the far side air bag module improperly can activate (deploy) the air bag module unexpectedly, which may seriously injure you. Read the SRS air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the far side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) •  If the far side air bag module is installed with debris in the seat back, the foreign material may be scattered when the far side air bag module operates (deploys), causing injury. Verify that there is no foreign material in the seat back before installing the far side air bag module.
Note
•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.
―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor
―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor

1.  Switch the ignition OFF.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Remove the front seat. (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the front seat back pad and front seat back trim as a single unit. (See FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Remove the nuts.

6.  Remove the far side air bag module.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

8.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

9.  Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light turns on for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag/pre-tensioner warning light does not work properly, verify the DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
