STEERING WHEEL SIDE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning
•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL.) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION.)

3.  Remove the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the steering shift switch. (With steering shift switch) (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)

5.  Remove the steering wheel cover. (See STEERING WHEEL COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.  Remove the steering wheel bezel. (See STEERING WHEEL BEZEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7.  Warm up the shaded area shown in the figure and soften the hard plastic area of the steering wheel using a heat gun.

8.  Remove the steering wheel side cover by pulling it and detaching tabs A, B, and C.

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
