Description

Opening angles of the left and right front roof link motors do not match
Detection condition
•  The retractable hardtop control module detects a differing number of pulse counts between the front roof link motor (RH) and the front roof link motor (LH).
Fail-safe
•  Stops retractable hardtop operation
Possible cause
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4O and front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
•  Short to power supply in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4R and front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4O and front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4R and front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and front roof link motor (LH) terminal B
•  Short to power supply in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and front roof link motor (LH) terminal B
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
•  Foreign matter penetrates front roof link
•  Front roof link motor (RH) malfunction
•  Front roof link motor (LH) malfunction
•  Retractable hardtop control module malfunction

VERIFY OTHER RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONTROL MODULE DTCs
•  Clear the DTC for the retractable hardtop control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the retractable hardtop control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the DTCs U3000:44/U3000:45/U3000:49 displayed?
Yes
Replace the retractable hardtop control module, then go to Step 10.

No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (RH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the retractable hardtop control module and front roof link motor (RH) connectors.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  Front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4O and front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
Go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (RH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
•  Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and front roof link motor (RH) connectors are disconnected.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Measure the voltage at the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  Front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
•  Is the voltage 0 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4R and front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to power supply.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to power supply.
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (RH) CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and front roof link motor (RH) connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4O and front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4R and front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step
No
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4P and front roof link motor (RH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4O and front roof link motor (RH) terminal B
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4R and front roof link motor (RH) terminal F
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the front roof link motor (LH) connectors.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  Front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Front roof link motor (LH) terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
Go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
•  Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and front roof link motor (LH) connectors are disconnected.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Measure the voltage at the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  Front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
•  Is the voltage 0 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to power supply.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to power supply.
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR (LH) CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Verify that the retractable hardtop control module and front roof link motor (LH) connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and front roof link motor (LH) terminal B
―  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step
No
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4T and front roof link motor (LH) terminal D
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4S and front roof link motor (LH) terminal B
•  Retractable hardtop control module terminal 4V and front roof link motor (LH) terminal F
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for an open circuit.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK
•  Visually inspect the front roof link for foreign matter.
•  Has foreign matter penetrated the front roof link?
Yes
Remove foreign matter from the front roof link, then go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT FRONT ROOF LINK MOTOR
•  Inspect the front roof link motor (RH) and (LH).
•  Is the front roof link motor (RH) and (LH) normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the front roof link motor (RH) or (LH), then go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the retractable hardtop control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the retractable hardtop control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the retractable hardtop control module.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
