• M range switch (built-in selector lever), TR switch, instrument cluster, or related wiring harness malfunction

• Before following the troubleshooting steps, make sure that the Automatic Transmission ON-Board Diagnostic and Automatic Transmission Basic Inspection are conducted. (See BASIC INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].)

STEP	INSPECTION	ACTION
1	• With the ignition switch at ON position. • When selector lever is moved, does selector illumination indicate synchronized position to lever location?	Yes	Go to the next step.
No	Inspect the TR switch. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].)
2	• Inspect the TR PID value using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].) • Is the TR PID value normal?	Yes	Go to Step 7.
No	Go to the next step.
3	• Adjust the TR switch. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH ADJUSTMENT [SJ6A-EL].) • Reinspect the TR PID value. • Is the TR PID value normal?	Yes	Symptom troubleshooting is completed. (TR switch is mis-adjustment.)
No	Go to the next step.
4	• Inspect the TR switch. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].) • Is the TR switch normal?	Yes	Inspect and repair the wiring harness between TCM terminal 2N/2O/2M/2K and TR switch.
No	Replace the TR switch. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)
5	• Inspect the MNL SW PID value using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].) • Is the MNL SW PID value normal?	Yes	Go to Step 7.
No	Go to the next step.
6	• Inspect the M range switch. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT INSPECTION.) • Is the M range switch normal?	Yes	Inspect and repair the wiring harness between TCM terminal 2G and selector lever component terminal B.
No	Replace the selector lever component. (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7	• Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION.) • Is the instrument cluster normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
No	Replace the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8	• Verify test results. ― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)

• Is the TR PID value normal?

Yes

Symptom troubleshooting is completed. (TR switch is mis-adjustment.)

• Inspect the TR switch.

• Is the TR switch normal?

Yes

Inspect and repair the wiring harness between TCM terminal 2N/2O/2M/2K and TR switch.

Replace the TR switch.

• Inspect the MNL SW PID value using the M-MDS.

(See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL].)

• Is the MNL SW PID value normal?

Yes

Go to Step 7.

Go to the next step.

• Inspect the M range switch.

(See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT INSPECTION.)

• Is the M range switch normal?

Yes

Inspect and repair the wiring harness between TCM terminal 2G and selector lever component terminal B.

Replace the selector lever component.

(See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

• Inspect the instrument cluster.

(See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION.)

• Is the instrument cluster normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

Replace the instrument cluster.

(See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

• Verify test results.

― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.

― If malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.

• If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.

• If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)

27	Gear position indicator light does not illuminate in D or M range
DESCRIPTION	• Gear position indicator light in instrument cluster does not illuminate in D or M range with the ignition switch at ON.
