Malfunction Location

• DTC B1087:83 communication error with rain sensor

• DTC B1087:86 error signal from rain sensor

• DTC B1087:87 no response from rain sensor

• DTC B1087:88 rain sensor BUS off

Detection Condition

• Communication error between rain sensor and BCM

Possible Causes

• Connection malfunction with connector

• Open circuit in wiring harness between rain sensor terminal C and BCM terminal 7U

• Short to ground or power supply in wiring harness between rain sensor terminal C and BCM terminal 7U

• Rain sensor malfunction

• BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION

•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch to AUTO.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Are DTCs B1087:83, B1087:86, B1087:87, B1087:88 displayed?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

VERIFY RAIN SENSOR CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.

•  Disconnect the rain sensor connector (RH).

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY RAIN SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT CONDITION

•  Inspect for continuity between rain sensor terminal B and body ground.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the BCM connector.

•  Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness.

•  Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.

VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Inspect for continuity between BCM terminal 7U and body ground.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

•  Inspect for continuity between rain sensor terminal C and BCM terminal 7U.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY

•  Measure the voltage between BCM terminal 7U and body ground.

•  Is there B+?

Yes

Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

•  Connect all the connectors.

•  Connect the battery cable.

•  Clear DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Turn the windshield wiper switch to AUTO.

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Are DTCs B1087:83, B1087:86, B1087:87, B1087:88 displayed?

Yes

Replace the BCM.

(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.
3	VERIFY RAIN SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT CONDITION • Inspect for continuity between rain sensor terminal B and body ground. • Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
4	VERIFY BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION • Disconnect the BCM connector. • Inspect the connection condition and wiring harness. • Are the connector terminals normal without damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the connector, then go to the final step.
5	VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Inspect for continuity between BCM terminal 7U and body ground. • Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	VERIFY BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR OPEN CIRCUIT • Inspect for continuity between rain sensor terminal C and BCM terminal 7U. • Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
7	VERIFY WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN RAIN SENSOR AND BCM FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY • Measure the voltage between BCM terminal 7U and body ground. • Is there B+?	Yes	Repair or replace the related wiring harness, then go to the final step.
7		No	Go to the next step.
8	VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED • Connect all the connectors. • Connect the battery cable. • Clear DTCs using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [BCM].) • Turn the windshield wiper switch to AUTO. • Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
