Abnormal message from EPS control module

DETECTION CONDITION

•  The EPS control module detects signal modulation or steering angle that exceeds specification.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  Improper installation or positioning of the steering column

•  Signal error from the ABS wheel-speed sensor

•  Signal error from the combined sensor

•  Signal errors from sensors due to rough road driving

•  Steering column internal malfunction

•  Poor connection at connectors (female terminal)

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	INSPECT FOR EPS CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION • Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. • Using the M-MDS, perform the DTC inspection for the EPS control module. (See ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS.) • Is the DTC displayed?	Yes	Go to applicable DTC inspection. (See ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS.)
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	VERIFY THAT THE SAME DTC IS NOT PRESENT • Clear the DTCs from the memory. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)].) • Start the engine and drive the vehicle at 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more. • Are the same DTCs present?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the DSC CM, then go to the next step. (See DSC HU/CM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].) (See DSC HU/CM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCS ARE PRESENT • Are any other DTCs output?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)].)
3		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
