Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
INSPECT APP SENSOR CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the APP sensor connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT APP SENSOR
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the accelerator pedal, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT APP SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Verify that the APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  APP sensor terminal A
―  APP sensor terminal B
―  APP sensor terminal C
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT APP SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Verify that the APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  APP sensor terminal A―Instrument cluster terminal 1F
―  APP sensor terminal B―Instrument cluster terminal 1D
―  APP sensor terminal C―Instrument cluster terminal 1G
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible open circuit, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and wait for 5 s or more.
•  Perform the instrument cluster DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the instrument cluster.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
