DTC P0425

Catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor signal malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the exhaust gas temperature on the catalytic converter using the catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor. If the PCM detects that the exhaust gas temperature is above 299.96 °C {571.93 °F} for 3 s when the engine coolant temperature is below 24.96 °C {79.93 °F}, the PCM determines that the catalyst exhaust gas temperature signal has a malfunction.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Excessive accumulation of soot in diesel particulate filter
•  Catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor malfunction
•  DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERLEARNED VALUE RESET improperly
•  FUEL INJECTOR CALIBRATION CODE improperly
•  PCM malfunction

Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
PERFORM DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
Note
•  If the engine misfires or stops during diesel particulate filter regeneration, go to the next step.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 9.
5
PERFORM FUEL INJECTOR CALIBRATION CODE PROGRAM
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the FUEL INJECTOR CALIBRATION CODE PROGRAM.
6
PERFORM SIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER LEARNED VALUE RESET
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER LEARNED VALUE RESET.
Note
•  If the engine misfires or stops during diesel particulate filter regeneration, go to the next step.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.

VISUALLY INSPECT DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER FOR RESTRICT AND DAMAGE
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Remove the catalytic converter.
•  Visually inspect the diesel particulate filter.
•  Is there any restrict or damage?
Yes
Replace the catalytic converter, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY THAT DTC P0425 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
