DTC P2002

Diesel particulate filter efficiency below threshold

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the exhaust pressure before and after the diesel particulate filter, using the diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor. If the differential pressure is lower the threshold calculated from the exhaust gas flow for a continuous 11 s, the PCM determines that there is a malfunction in the diesel particulate filter.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Diesel particulate filter differential learning reset procedure is not performed properly
•  Particulate filter differential pressure sensor malfunction
•  Loose or poor installation particular filter differential pressure sensor piping
•  Exhaust gas leakage in exhaust system
•  Diesel particulate filter damaged
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition to off, then to ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the following PENDING CODE/DTC also present?
―  P2453, P2454, P2455
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
PERFORM DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR LEARNED RESET
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL LEARNED VALUE RESET.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 9.
(DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL LEARNED VALUE RESET procedure is not performed properly.)
5
INSPECT PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR PIPING
•  Inspect for connection and condition at particular filter differential pressure sensor side piping.
•  Is there any clacked and/or damaged found?
Yes
Repair or replace for malfunctioning part, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT EXHAUST GAS LEAKAGE
•  Inspect the exhaust system for leakage.
•  Is there any leakage found around diesel particulate filter and exhaust manifold?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VISUALLY INSPECT DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER FOR DAMAGE
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Remove the catalytic converter.
•  Visually inspect the diesel particulate filter.
•  Is there any damage?
Yes
Replace the catalytic converter, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY THAT DTC P2002 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
