DETECTION CONDITION
|
• The PCM monitors the EGR solenoid valve control signal. If the PCM detects the following conditions, the PCM determines that there is an EGR control signal error.
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE
|
• EGR valve and EGR valve position sensor connector or terminal malfunction
• Obstruction in EGR valve
• EGR valve malfunction
• EGR valve position sensor malfunction
• PCM malfunction

VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Verify related service repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
|
Yes
|
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
• If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
|
No
|
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
• Switch the ignition to ON (engine off).
• Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
• Is the other PENDING CODE/DTC also present?

Yes
|
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
|
No
|
Go to the next step.

IIDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
• Is P0405 or P042E on FREEZE FRAME DATA?
|
Yes
|
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
|
No
|
Go to the next step.
|

INSPECT EGR VALVE AND EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR CONNECTORS FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Switch the ignition to off.
• Disconnect the EGR valve and EGR valve position sensor connectors.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?

Yes
|
Repair or replace the terminal, then go to Step 9.
|
No
|
Go to the next step.
|

|
VISUALLY INSPECT EGR VALVE
• The EGR valve connector is disconnected.
• Remove the EGR valve without the EGR cooler hose disconnected.
• Visually inspect the EGR valve.
• Is there any obstruction (carbon deposit etc.) in EGR valve?

Yes
|
Remove the obstacle, then go to the next step.
|
No
|
Go to the next step.
|

|
INSPECT THE EGR VALVE
• Inspect the EGR valve.
• Is the EGR valve normal?
|
Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Replace the EGR valve.
Then go to Step 9.
|

INSPECT EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR
• Inspect the EGR valve position sensor.
• Is the EGR valve position sensor normal?
|
Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Replace the EGR valve.
Then go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT DTC P0489 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
• Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
• Is the same DTC present?

Yes
|
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
• If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.

No
|
Go to the next step.

VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the after repair procedure.
• Are any DTCs present?
|
Yes
|
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
|
No
|
DTC troubleshooting completed.
