DTC P0489

EGR control circuit range/performance (swerves to negative side)

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the EGR solenoid valve control signal. If the PCM detects the following conditions, the PCM determines that there is an EGR control signal error.
―  EGR valve opening angle is lower than -25 %
―  EGR valve opening angle fixed to minus side for 10 s or more
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  EGR valve and EGR valve position sensor connector or terminal malfunction
•  Obstruction in EGR valve
•  EGR valve malfunction
•  EGR valve position sensor malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•   Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?

•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the terminal, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VISUALLY INSPECT EGR VALVE
•  The EGR valve connector is disconnected.
•  Remove the EGR valve without the EGR cooler hose disconnected.
•  Visually inspect the EGR valve.
•  Is there any obstruction (carbon deposit etc.) in EGR valve?
Yes
Remove the obstacle, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT THE EGR VALVE
•  Inspect the EGR valve.
