VALVE CLEARANCE INSPECTION [L3 Turbo]

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3.  Remove the charge air cooler. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

4.  Remove the ignition coils. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

5.  Disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover. (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (EMISSION SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

6.  Remove the cylinder head cover. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

7.  Remove the splash shield (RH). (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

8.  Measure the valve clearance.

Note
•  Make sure to note down the measured values for choosing the suitable replacement tappets.
(1)  Turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the No.1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke.
(2)  Measure the valve clearance at A in the figure.

Standard valve clearance [Engine cold]
IN: 0.22—0.28 mm {0.009—0.011 in}
EX: 0.27—0.33 mm {0.011—0.012 in}
(3)  If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT [L3 Turbo].)
(4)  Turn the crankshaft 360° clockwise so that the No.4 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke.
(5)  Measure the valve clearance at B in the figure.
Standard valve clearance [Engine cold]
IN: 0.22—0.28 mm {0.009—0.011 in}
EX: 0.27—0.33 mm {0.011—0.012 in}
(6)  If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT [L3 Turbo].)

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
