NO.30 DOES NOT DOWNSHIFT IN M RANGE [FS5A-EL]

• Down switch (built-in selector lever component) or related wiring harness malfunction

• Steering shift switch or related circuit malfunction (with steering shift switch)

• Before following the troubleshooting steps, make sure that the Automatic Transaxle On-board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) (See BASIC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].)

STEP	INSPECTION	ACTION
1	Inspect the DWN SW PID value using the M-MDS when the selector lever is pushed to “−” side. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) Is the PID value normal?	Yes	With steering shift switch: • Go to the next step. Without steering shift switch: • Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION.) • Replace the instrument cluster if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No	Inspect the down switch. (See DOWN SWITCH INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) If the down switch has a malfunction: • Replace the down switch. (See DOWN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL].) If the down switch is normal: • Inspect for continuity between selector lever component terminal C (wiring harness-side) and TCM terminal F (wiring harness-side). • Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
2	Inspect the DWN SW PID value using the M-MDS when the steering shift switch “DOWN” is pushed. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) Is the PID value normal?	Yes	Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION.) Replace the instrument cluster if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No	Inspect the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) If the steering shift switch is normal: • Inspect the following wiring harnesses: ― Between steering shift switch (right side) terminal A and TCM terminal T ― Between steering shift switch (left side) terminal A and TCM terminal X • Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
3	• Verify the test results. ― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL].)

Is the PID value normal?

Yes

With steering shift switch:

• Go to the next step.

Without steering shift switch:

• Inspect the instrument cluster.

• Replace the instrument cluster if necessary.

Inspect the down switch.

If the down switch has a malfunction:

• Replace the down switch.

(See DOWN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL].)

If the down switch is normal:

• Inspect for continuity between selector lever component terminal C (wiring harness-side) and TCM terminal F (wiring harness-side).

• Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.

Inspect the DWN SW PID value using the M-MDS when the steering shift switch “DOWN” is pushed.

Is the PID value normal?

Yes

Inspect the instrument cluster.

Replace the instrument cluster if necessary.

(See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Inspect the steering shift switch.

(See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].)

If the steering shift switch is normal:

• Inspect the following wiring harnesses:

― Between steering shift switch (right side) terminal A and TCM terminal T

― Between steering shift switch (left side) terminal A and TCM terminal X

• Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.

• Verify the test results.

― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.

― If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.

• If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.

• If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL].)

30	Does not downshift in M range
DESCRIPTION	• Gear position indicator light in instrument cluster illuminates but vehicle does not downshift when the selector lever is pushed to “−” side or steering shift switch “DOWN” is pushed.
