M range position indicator light does not illuminate in M range and/or in D range with direct mode/M range position indicator light illuminates in D range while not in direct mode
|
DESCRIPTION
|
• M range position indicator light in instrument cluster does not illuminate in M range and/or in D range in direct mode when ignition switch is in ON position.
• M range position indicator light illuminates in D range while not in direct mode when ignition switch is in ON position.
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE
|
• M range switch (built-in selector lever component) malfunction
• Steering shift switch or related circuit malfunction (with steering shift switch)
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness between manual switch (built-in selector lever component) and TCM
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness between steering shift switch and TCM

Diagnostic procedure
STEP |
INSPECTION |
ACTION |
|
---|---|---|---|
1
|
Inspect the MNL SW PID value using the M-MDS.
Monitor the MLN SW PID with move the selector lever to all position and range.
Is the PID value normal?
|
Yes
|
With steering shift switch:
• Go to the next step.
Without steering shift switch:
• Verify that the M range position indicator light using M-MDS simulation function WL+IL.
• Replace the instrument cluster if necessary.
|
No
|
Inspect the M range switch.
If the M range switch is normal:
• Inspect the wiring harness between selector lever component terminal A and TCM terminal K.
• Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.

2
|
Inspect the UP SW and DWN SW PID values using the M-MDS.
Monitor the UP SW and DWN SW PIDs by pressing the steering shift switch while the selector lever is in the D range.
Are the PID values normal?
|
Yes
|
Verify the M range position indicator light using M-MDS simulation function WL+IL.
Replace the instrument cluster if necessary.
|
No
|
Inspect the steering shift switch.
If the steering shift switch is normal:
• Inspect the following wiring harnesses:
• Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
